Treatment for Enlarged Prostate
The prostate is a gland the size of a walnut that is part of the male reproductive system. The gland is composed of two lobes, or regions, enclosed by an outer layer of tissue. As shown diagrams, the prostate is located front of the rectum and just below the bladder, where urine is stored. The prostate also surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body.

Enlarged Prostate Treatment

If you have major problems such as urinary bleeding, infections persistent urinary tract, bladder and kidney damage, your doctor will probably recommend treatment. If the prostate enlarges, but its symptoms are not too bothersome, treatment may not be necessary.
Drugs for treatment of prostate enlargementThere two types of medications that help control symptoms an enlarged prostate, which are alpha blockers and finasteride Proscar Propecia. Avoid refined sugar and flour, dairy products, food refined, fried foods, junk foods, hydrogenated oils, alcohol (especially beer), and caffeine.
Finasteride is a drug that inhibits action of the male hormone testosterone and helps reduce the prostate. The side effects of finasteride include decreased interest in sex, problems getting an erection, and problems with ejaculation. Because it is a new drug, doctors are not sure about their long-term effects.
