Female Incontinence Treatment – Many Causes Many Options
If you are a woman with incontinence, the type of incontinence and the underlying condition that is causing it will determine which female incontinence treat is most appropriate for you. Treatments for this condition range from lifestyle changes, to exercise, to medication or even surgery. The first step in selecting the right approach is a visit to your doctor.
Incontinence by itself is not a disease but a symptom of some other condition that results in incontinence. Stress incontinence for example is one of the most common forms of the condition and is mostly caused by a weakening of the muscles in the pelvic floor. This is fairly common among women because of the strain and damage that is done to this area when giving birth. While the stress of childbirth may not immediately be evident, as the years go by, coupling that stress with the normal loss of muscle tone most likely will result in an incontinency problem.
In these instances the most common treatment is exercise to rebuild the muscles and give the bladder better support. There is however, a new surgical procedure involving muscle building stem cells that looks very promising and may be the treatment of the future.
Other forms of the condition such as over active bladder can be treated with lifestyle changes and diet. Caffeine and alcohol both irritate the bladder and are also natural diuretics. Eliminating these liquids can reduce the irritation and reduce the strain on the bladder caused by the diuretic effect.
Bladder training is another female incontinence treatment that is commonly used. This basically involves setting a schedule for trips to the rest room and increasing the time between trips as time goes on. There are several other approaches to treating this condition in women but your first stop should be to your physician. Together you can plan how best to end incontinence in your life.
