In General, Who is better, Orthopedic Surgeon with Spine Fellowship, or Neurosurgeon with Spine Fellowship?

I know most of Neurosurgeons feel “comfortable” operating on spine after their residency without spine fellowship, however an Orthopedic Surgeon must have a spine fellowship for them to work on spine. Now What if a Neurosurgeon did a spine fellowship, how would an Orthopedic Surgeon with spine fellowship be compared to him? and who is better (In general)?
Assuming they both have the same years of experience and they both attended a top notch residency/fellowship programs.

If you are trying to determine who would be the better surgeon in this scenario then that is just all relevant to who the specific surgeons are and not necessarily what specific specialty their surgical residencies and fellowships were in. It really all boils down to your “gift” or just natural ability at handling the knife and instruments while navigating and repairing the different medical issues that effect the spine. I have seen some instances where an orthopaedic surgeon was more skilled and just plain better at the job than a neurosurgeon and I have also seen it the other way around.

When I talk to people who are planning or are looking into having spinal surgery I always give them the advice that they should go to a spine center which employs both a neurosurgeon and orthopaedic surgeon because I believe it is the synergistic approach that is typically the best one. However if I had to blindly choose (say for myself) between having an ortho or a neuro guy/gal operate on my spine then I am going to go with the neurosurgeon every time. In most cases the neuro residents just have a lot more opportunity to gain hands on experience in some extremely delicate surgeries with some extremely high difficulty factors and therefore they are able to gain some extra ice in their veins which is what I want when someone is coming at my spine with a blade!
