Common Factors for Sciatic Nerve Problems
Sciatic nerve problems can be created by squeezing or irritating one of five nerve roots at the spine, which make up the foundation of the sciatic nerve. This nerve discomfort is usually experienced in the lower back area, buttocks, and sometimes throughout the legs, even down through your feet at times.
In some cases, this pain can be extremely strong and even cause circulation discomfort, pins and needles, and numbness, resulting in difficulty moving the legs.
Sciatic nerve problems will typically only show themselves on one side of the body.
Squeezing of the sciatic nerve that leads to pain is usually caused by common things like a wallet pressed up against the muscle, belts that are too tight, or being pregnant.
Relief for sciatic nerve pain can typically be attained through anti-inflammatory meds like advil and tylenol, physical therapy, massage therapy, stretching, and actupuncture.
It is rare that sciatic nerve problems are an indication of something more severe, but it is a wise plan to take action immediately and seek treatment for sciatic pain, especially when the pain gets work or isn’t treated. Surgery can be useful in solving sciatic nerve pain problems, but is usually not required.
The treatments that result from surgical and non-surgical methods generally yield the same results, so opting out of surgery may be wise. There are many risk factors associated with sciatic nerve problems like age, diabetes, lifestyle, occupational hazards, and being overweight. Typically jobs which require someone to carry heavy loads which can result in twisting of the back makes them more vulnerable to sciatica.
On the other hand, jobs that involve sitting for long hours such as desk jobs can contribute to this risk as well. Also as the aging process continues, small changes take place in the spine, which can increase risk of sciatic problems.
