what type of monitoring system do doctor’s use to monitor patient compliance in the treatment of pain?
When prescribing medication for pain patients, there has to be a way for physicians to be able to effectively monitor the patients for taking the meds as prescribed. This would protect the practice a little more if we could document that we have done everything possible to effectively treat the patients.

As with all issues of compliance, it’s down to the patient. I’ve had experience where we’ve put patients on morphine and had them go to the pharmacy to collect once a week so that they can’t sell them to readily. We’ve also had patient’s who have let us take bloods and do serum levels on them to ensure that they are taking the meds and taking them right. It’s a tricky one.
After you write the script, it’s out of your hands unless you make them come in and take them in front of you each day (not realistic)
