IUD insertion Pain managment?
I would like to hear from a medical professional about some techniques for better pain management during an IUD insertion. I attempted to have the Paragard inserted today and when the nurse went into measure my cervix I experienced an acute sharp cramping pain. It was so bad that I yelled out, which is not normal for me. We decided that with this response to just the measurement that we wouldn’t go through with the insertion. Before she had numbed me with 1% Lidocaine. I also had a slight vaso-vagal response which passed within a couple minutes. I did some internet searching and found something called a paracervical block. Would this completely numb the cervix? I had a LEEP done years ago and I believe the Dr used Lido with Epi and I didn’t feel a thing. Are there other pain control options or maybe an IUD is just not right for me? Any advice?
Para-cervical block is generally used during the 2nd stages of labor, pregnancy termination (D&C). It’s used basically to numb the cervix.
I have heard that the IUD is painful to the patient during insertion and it causes a lot of cramping after wards.
Talk it over with your doctor.
