Hurt my lower back…injury.?
Hi, I was lifting something from the ground and I heard my lower back crack and felt lots of pain. I think it was because I didn’t warm up the muscle properly. Now I can hardly move around, twist or pick things up.
What’s a good way to heal this injury? Should I stretch it or just massage something into the muscle. How long do I need to rest it? If anyone knows about this kind of thing I would appreciate your advice.
Ok, I already answered a back question for someone else today so rather then write this all out again I copied and pasted what I told this other woman to do. It’s basically the same.
I think you’ll do fine. Keep using your knees to bend and lift. Take it easy. When you do things at floor level do what I do and kneel on one knee to relive the strain on your back. When picking up your son out of the crib put one foot on box so you can keep one of your knees bent while lifting him out of the crib. Everything revolves on lifting things without using your back. When sitting have the chair or stool on its lowest setting. If you can somehow get your knees above your hips again you’ll relieve any back strain. When lying down keep your knees flexed either on a pillow or lying on your side. When standing at the kitchen counter making dinner get a small box or step stool to place your foot on to keep your knee flexed.
Also never twist your back when carrying anything or moving something from one side to another. I killed my back trying to lift a case of copy paper that weighs over forty pounds and then twisted my back to place it on the cart. Wrong move. Use your feet and turn.
For the moment take some Aleve or Advil and use a heating pad when you have a chance to lie down If you don’t get better in a few days then see an orthopaedic spine doctor. He can give you a prescription for Celebrex which works well for me.
Good luck! Hope this helps. This is what I do when my back hurts.
