If I herniated a disk and was a pro athlete, what kind of treatment would I get so that I would be 100%?
I have a L5S1 herniation and I have had the epidural shots with physical therapy. They have considerably relieved pain however I know I am not 100% and I fear that I will never be again. Meaning I won’t be able to enjoy my hobbies like snowboarding and martial arts. I first had the epidural last fall and again a month ago, this time with I stuck to the physical therapy.I am convinced shooting myself up with steroids 3 times a year is not going to cut it for the next 40 years.
I have a feeling that if I was making a pro athletes salary I would have been offered another treatment that could fix the herniation and move on. Whats the deal? Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance. 10pts to top dog.
PS: I am in my late 20′s.
My surgery in the early 1990′s was a huge success. I had an L5 surgery to alleviate severe pain upon walking or any movement. My options were to leave it alone and it would cure itself in 5 or more years or to have the surgery. I opted for the surgery in September ’92. The lamina was removed and I was teaching skiing and snowboarding as a Professional Instructor by the end of January ’93.
I’m now 67 and still on the slopes doing the black diamonds so it worked for me!
