I need help with a diagnosis of herniated cervical discs and DJD in my c-spine. Any thoughts?
I currently take medications (percocet and soma–sometimes NSAIDS but they severaly upset my stomach) to alleviate the pain. Have already been through several sessions of physical therapy (which I also do for a living) and have had steroid injections. The meds. are working less and less and my doctor even seems “reluctant” about even prescribing them to me but it seems that my body gets used to the dosage after awhile and my meds. have changed several times over the duration of the past 5 years- the time from which this has occurred. The pain interferes with my life on a daily basis- I can no longer do a lot of the things I used to- forget about the gym or even walking for exercise because it simply too painful. I want to opt for surgery as a LAST resort only. I am 30 years old and simply feel that there are other choices first. I am going to a (new) pain management doc. today. Any and all help/comments/suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advacnce. ~MissC
I have the same conditions as you. You can continue down the path of pain meds, but your doc will typically titrate (increase) your medicine every 6-12 months, as you have well realized that your body will become tolerant to the meds over a period of time.
Speak to the pain mgmt doc about steroid injections, epidural injections, and (if you want to continue) stronger meds–try oxycodone without the tylenol/aceteminophen, called roxicet, comes in 15mg, 30mg..works great and not bad on your liver.
Also, think about where you want your life to be in 5 yrs.. do you want to be on meds? working? ask your doc what it will take to get you to where you want to be..
Feel better.
