Is there any kind of surgery that will reconstruct pelvic floor muscles?
Since having my second child (11 years) I have had the worst bladder control…..even when I dont need to urinate, if I run, laugh, cough, etc, “a little bit of wee comes out”……….is there any kind of surgery to fix this? I do pelvic floor exercises all the time because I was told this would help, but it really hasn’t! Please somebody help me, because I don’t want to have to wear incontinence aids for the rest of my life (I’m 34 btw)
Yes-you should ask to be referred to a urogynecologist (a urologist who specializes in women’s incontinence problems). You should also consider seeing a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic rehabilitation. Most of us didn’t learn to do Kegel exercises correctly, and you may find that they work much better when you have a real expert show you how to do them.
The urogynecologist will likely do a complete workup and urodynamic testing. It’s a long process, but it’s worth it. There are several surgical techniques available, but you should try to make sure you’ve really done your best with exercises. Also, some doctors will advise against the procedure if you’re thinking of having more children.
