Spinal or general anesthesia for cervical surgery?

This Tuesday I will have a ‘cervical surgery’. This means I was diagnosed with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) and I have pre-cancerous cells which will eventually transform to cancerous ones and I need them to be removed from the cervix (in which these damaged tissue is found)… Like it was not enough with the terrible news of me showing positive on HPV, I was told about these just a week ago. It is really getting on my nerves since I will be on surgery in only 4 days. I was told to think which of the anesthesias I wanted to have between general and spinal. Spinal really FREAKS me out so much since I’ve heard that it causes problems and discomforts in the long term… and also there is a risk of something going wrong get paralyzed… But other people say that general is more dangerous since side effects are stronger. Which of them you think I should choose????

i don’t want you to make a %100 decision from just reading what people on Y/A say. so be sure to research both types prior to deciding.

personally i would NOT go with the spinal. i have a friend that had it with her c-section and now her back is messed up. and it freaks me out as well to think that something such as becoming paralyzed could happen.
plus i would not want to be aware of what they are doing.

i would go for the general anesthesia cuz you will be completely unaware of what is going on and you will not have the urge to move around or feel like you may have to pee or suddenly get itchy somewhere and be dieing to scratch it.
there is a more serious risk with general since you are completely unconscious and your life is basically in the anesthesiologist’s hands but the anesthesiologist will be standing right next to you the whole time monitoring everything and if there is a complication they do everything they can to correct it.

even though i am always nervous when i get GA know that they will take good care of me.
