How does a back surgeon know if he can depressurize a nerve without destabilizing the back & cause slippage?
My friend is confused! He was offered a total joint replacement (flexible) or he wants to approach this conservatively and get bone cut away from the nerve but the surgeon says it may slip in a year. How do they know this? If it slipped, he’d have to get fusion and that would preclude the flexible joint. Thanks
They don’t know. Like chiropractors They just fix for the short term.
Rehab exercise is your best bet. Pilates/Core Strength&Stability. If you can get control in the area. Slippage is minimal chance of happening.
If surgery is unavoidable, go for the disc replacement. Becuase you can develop potential due to still having movement.
Fusion may take away the pain first off for a while. But the areas below and above the fusion will become unstable and then they’ll eventually need to be fused (or just cause huge amounts of pain)
You can’t mobilize a fused spine…. but you can stablize and strengthen a weak and hypermobile (too flexible) spine.
