Ingrown Toenail Prevention?
I recently broke part of my toenail off in an injury such that the nail is cut very far down the side of the toe. There is also a cut where the nail will potentially grow back up the side of the toe. To me, these are perfect conditions for an ingrown toenail to result. What measures can i take to prevent this from happening.
As long as the nail can grow normally back under good conditions (keep your feet very clean, wear good shoes/rotate the shoes you wear, and allow your feet to be shoe and sock free whenever possible) you should be fine. Keep an eye on it as it grows back. If there are any sharp parts growing out, try to file them off so the nail doesn’t snag on anything and get pulled or damaged again. Also, for the first few days or week if the nail bed area looks at all red or irritated you might help it heal faster by soaking your foot 2 or 3 times a day 15-20 minutes in an epsoms salt and warm water solution. You might want to put a fabric bandaid over it for protection whenever you have a sock and shoe on but take it off to the air at all other times.
